Changing my Attitude

I love when the new year comes around because I feel like its nice excuse to have a fresh start and chance to start new habits. I realize it doesn't take a new year or a new number to start new habits or work on change for the better. However, as each new year rolls around I definitely try to embrace improving on things that I know I could do better at during the upcoming year.

This year I started a new diet. Now before you jump to conclusions, I am not trying to lose weight. I actually, not by choice, am on a gluten free diet. While 2012 was probably one of my most favorite years to date, it has also been difficult in other ways. Overall, I did not feel well for most of the year. While it was on and off, when I felt off, it was really off. There were a few days where I even felt like I couldn't get out of bed which is very unlike me. So after a lot of painful testing it appears that the best next step for me is to try and give up any and all gluten products. While I am less than thrilled with the outcome, I'm hopeful that it will mean that I'll start to feel better.

As I started my diet, I realized that it was going to be so much harder than I anticipated. If you know me in the least, then you know I have such a sweet tooth. I would eat cupcakes for breakfast everyday of my life if I could. But rather than give myself an endless long list of all the things I can't have, I'm deciding to change my attitude. I'm discovering that if I go into each day with a positive attitude about the things that I can eat, it makes it so much easier. Overall, I've been eating healthier and starting to feel a tad bit better. So here is to hopeful thinking that in a few more weeks, I'll be back to my normal happy self!

If you know any great blogs, recipes, or other people who are gluten free, please leave me a link in the comments!

  1. I hope going GF makes big changes in how you feel girl!! I know of at least one GF blogger (http://www.discovercreatelive.com/) - she posts some recipes sometimes! http://www.lynnskitchenadventures.com/ also has a GF recipe index! :)

  2. That's disappointing that you have to go gluten free, but for my friends that have had to do it, they did notice a significant difference in how they felt. So I pray it will be totally worth it. One of the food blogs I follow is actually gluten free and maybe you should check it out: http://withstyleandgraceblog.com/

  3. Oh my gosh I have Celiac and I have tons of good recipes and ideas that work really well for me! Honestly, eating GF is the best thing that ever happened for me..and my health!
GlutenFreeGirl.com is one of my absolute favorites, plus she's really good about breaking things down. ShastaAnne.com is another one of my favorites because she's GF, but she is also a style blogger so it's not just 100% Celiac all of the time!
If you ever have any questions, don't hesitate to ask :) XOX

  4. I've been gluten free for over a year now and it as changed my life! Like you, I have a giant sweet tooth and didn't know how I would survive without baked goods, but it's not as hard as you think! I've posted a couple of good GF recipes and have plenty more if you'd ever like to chat!

Also - this website is fantastic. Type in your location and it'll give you restaurants with GF menus! http://glutenfreeregistry.com/index.jsp

  5. I have celiac disease and have been gluten free for over a year. It has completely changed my life and the way that I feel for the better! The hardest part is avoiding cross contamination and finding restaurants that will work with you without putting you in danger of ingesting gluten. I've seen a big change just in the last year for the better though with people being more aware of the gluten free lifestyle. Good luck!

  6. Oh, girl. After waffling back and forth for a few years, I gave it up in January 2011 and it made such a difference for me. Email me anytime you need ideas.

We don't eat grains at all, so my fave websites are theclothesmakethegirl.com, whole9life.com, and marksdailyapple.com.

Good luck! And please know the first two weeks are killer: lots of staring into the fridge thinking "WHAT can I EAT?" But then you get used to it. Truly.

  8. I had a roommate who was gluten free and it was a lot easier to accommodate than I expected! Rice bowls, tacos with corn tortillas, tons of varieties of salads, etc. Plus there are great resources at the store like gluten free pasta, pizza dough or pancake mix. Praying this change helps you feel much better!
