This Year Will be Different

I don't make new years resolutions. A small part of me wishes I did, but then I always remember that come February they are long tucked away and forgotten. And I seriously hate coming to an end of a year and looking back and feeling like I failed myself.

Last year I picked a word to live by, which was fearless. I felt like every time I rounded a corner, there was fear looking me right in the eyes. Thankfully, I learned to be a little braver, take more chances, not be so afraid of risks, and leap a little bigger. There were a lot of challenges thrown my way in the past tweleve months, and I feel like choosing fearless as a word to live by served me well. I brainstormed a bit about what I wanted word(s) I wanted for this upcoming year and I landed on two.

My words for 2013 are YES and HOPE. I want to be less afraid of the word yes. I think sometimes we live in a culture that says yes to everything and then we burnout as a result. I'm not talking about that kind of yes. I'm talking about being more open to opportunities and adventure and not saying no out of fear. I also choose hope because I think this year has proven just how fragile the world really is. I want to live in a way that both believes in hope as well as inspires hope in others.

Most years in lieu of resolutions, I set a goal of how I want to bless others because its much more tangible and realistic for me to accomplish than resolutions I had set for myself in the past. However, I want this year to be a little different. This year, I really and truly want to let those around me know just how much they mean to me and how much they bless me.

This year I plan to write as many love letters and send them into the world as I possibly can.

  1. Love it! If you need any encouragement when it's hard to say yes, you can always come to me. :)

  5. I'm not really into resolutions either. At least not just because of the new year. Typically, if I want to make a change, I try not to wait until the new year to make it, no matter how difficult that is. But I really like your idea of picking a word or attribute to focus on during the new year. I'll have to give this some thought and figure out what I'd like to be my primary focus this year. Thanks for the idea!

  6. Great!! Love the love note idea. In fact, I recently saw some cards at World Market that I think I need to go back and purchase so that I can do the same thing. Just little notes to let people know I'm thinking about them. Thanks for the inspiration!
